This lyrical abstraction was inspired by the colors of Frank Herbert's Dune series. The primary books take place on a desert planet known as Arrakis, the only planet in the universe where a substance called spice, used by many different groups for many different things, can be mined. The desert areas are populated by a nomadic people called Fremen, who have "blue within blue" eyes. This piece depicts the swirling, spice-laden sands with the blue within blue hues, and precisely matches the other paintings in the Dune gallery.
